Born in Clarksville, Texas, in 1962, Cagle has always had a solid connection to his Texan roots, which he considers his true home despite his extensive travels. He and his wife, Donna, have shared over thirty years of marriage, during which they raised their son, who is now an adult. The Cagle family lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, beginning in 1999 but returned to Plano, Texas, in 2017, where they currently reside.
Reed's career in the oil industry began in 1986 with a position at Kinlaw Oil Corporation. What started as a job quickly turned into a passion as he immersed himself in all aspects of the oil industry. His dedication and rapid mastery of the field led to numerous promotions, culminating in significant leadership roles within the company. After a decade of impactful work at Kinlaw, he decided to pursue independent ventures.
In 1996, Cagle founded his own company in Dallas, Texas. By 1997, he had established Heartland Energy Inc., also known as HEI, serving as its president and CEO. At HEI, he worked closely with joint venture partners and various specialists in the energy sector, such as drilling contractors and engineers. His firm specializes in initiating new ventures and exploring opportunities in oil, gas, and minerals. His venture into the drilling service industry in 2006 marked a significant expansion, with the development of a 2000 horsepower drilling rig that significantly enhanced the company's drilling capabilities.
Expanding his horizons further, Reed entered the mining sector in 2011 with a significant operation in Oregon, which yielded an impressive 89,000 ounces of gold. His mining interests also extended to Chile, where he contributed to the management and financing of a gold and copper processing facility in Copiapo. Notably, he developed a proprietary process for the safe and efficient extraction of metals, which involved detoxifying harmful substances from liquids used in metal recovery, showcasing his innovative approach to environmental and operational challenges.
Cagle currently lives in Plano, Texas, and continues his consulting practice, advising a broad range of clients in the oil and energy sectors, as well as other industries. He has a particular focus on supporting midsize independent companies and a large landscaping company that serves East and Central Texas.
An ardent lover of the outdoors, Reed enjoys hunting, fly fishing, and cycling, promoting the latter's benefits for wellness among both youths and adults. He also holds a private pilot’s license, which allows him to indulge his passion for flying. His vibrant personality and leadership skills make him a central figure in his church, where he frequently organizes community activities.
Cagle is also an accomplished golfer with a four handicap. He actively participates in charity golf tournaments, often playing with his son, and uses these events to support various charitable causes. He founded Outreachers, a non-denominational Christian charity that focuses on spiritual and sustainable development in local and international communities. This organization builds essential infrastructure like homes, churches, schools, and medical facilities and raises funds through activities such as the Chip-In charity golf tournament.
